Never-Ending Battle

November 5, 2018 by D A Winter Leave a Comment

You've exceeded my expectations
In reaching the potential I saw in you
So many years ago;
You continue to surprise me,
Amaze me.
But you cannot see past
The clouded glass that surrounds
Your perception of yourself.

I watch you fight the tides of darkness.
I watch you get swept up and surrender
Only to battle your way to the surface again.
And I marvel at your strength.

Your darkness both repels
And calls to me.
I want to drown in it,
And I want to be the light
That leads you to peace.

I fear I'm not bright enough.
I fear you'll stop fighting.
